Bulgaria’s capital city, Sofia, has a low cost of living that’s a tempting proposition for digital nomads, expats, and remote workers, making it the perfect place to come for a few months or even a few years.
The city is small but intimate, and it’s a good base for exploring other parts of Bulgaria like Bankso, Plovdiv, and Sunny Beach, as well as its neighbouring countries like Serbia, Macedonia, and Northern Greece.
Finding a place to rent is always the hardest part of moving anywhere and, in this article, I’ve listed all of the different websites that list apartments for rent in Sofia.
Finding Medium-Term Rentals in Sofia
For medium-term rentals, anything less than 6 months essentially, Airbnb is usually the easiest option. Properties start from around €250-300 per month, which includes all of your utilities like water, electricity, and internet, but typical prices are around €500 per month.
You may be able to haggle on that price, particularly if you’re staying for a few months. Some hosts are willing to offer a discount, and there’s never any harm in asking.
Red Apple Apartments
Red Apple Apartments offer apartments that can be rented on a nightly or monthly basis. Their monthly rates start from around €750 for a small to medium-sized apartment, although you may be able to get a discounted rate if you’re staying for an extended period of time.
Finding Long-Term Rentals in Sofia
Bulgarian Properties have a number of modern properties for rent in Sofia, particularly in the city centre. Most of the properties have a minimum rental of 1 year, but you may be able to negotiate on this aspect.
Long Term Lettings
Long Term Lettings is a great resource for finding long term rentals in Sofia or around the world. You can easily filter to find apartments and homes that have amenities like wi-fi, that are furnished, that are pet-friendly, or that have a swimming pool.
Some of the properties have long term contracts, while others have monthly contracts, so it could be a good options for a shorter-term rental as well.
Stay Sofia lists properties that are available on a short, medium, and long-term basis. Long-term on this site usually means 12 months or more, but many of the properties have a slightly reduced rate for a month or more.
Cleves, a property lettings company in Sofia, rents some of its properties on a monthly basis. They do not have up-to-date listings of those apartments on their website, so you will need to contact them to get a list of available apartments.
